Abstract Many EFL students on Chilean institutions show a low level of lexis in English subject due to the strategies used which are little motivating, useless or insignificant to the student. The lack of relevant material does not allow the pupil to read, write or communicate properly as it is highly important to use interesting materials at the moment of teaching. The participants were three different classes of a levelling program of secondary education. The groups were: two “primer ciclo” (9th and 10th grade) and one “segundo ciclo” (11th and 12th grade) from Colegio Andrés Bello L, Chillán. The purpose of this study was to determine if the use of authentic material in EFL classes would improve the vocabulary acquisition. The data was collected via a transversal-quantitative census, in which every student being part of the lessons were exposed to oral-authentic material. The aim of this study could not be answered because of the necessity to stop the research in the middle of the process. Some findings though were seen during the few lessons that were done; the most important one was the motivation towards the material presented, students showed a good reception towards the recordings.
