El propósito del siguiente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar el terremoto de 1835 en la ciudad de Chillán, comprender los discursos de las autoridades y de la población en torno al tránsito de una sociedad tradicional y de frontera a una que intenta insertarse a la modernidad material y económica. The purpose of the following work is to analyze the earthquake of 1835 in the city of Chillán, understand the speeches of the authorities and the population about the transition from a traditional and border society to one that tries to insert itself into material modernity and economic.
